| LIVING THE
SOLUTION WITH DAILY INSPIRATION |
Don't imagine
us leaders to be something we aren't. We are servants
of Christ, not his masters. We are guides into God's most
sublime secrets, not security guards posted to protect
them. The requirements for a good guide are reliability
and accurate knowledge. It matters very little to me what
you think of me, even less where I rank in popular opinion.
I don't even rank myself. Comparisons in these matters
are pointless. I'm not aware of anything that would disqualify
me from being a good guide for you, but that doesn't mean
much. The Master makes that judgment. (1 Corinthians 4:1-4
The Message)
What a refreshing way to view leaders.
Servant leadership was an important part of Jesus' ministry
and he modeled it often. As Christ is the guide into the
secrets of God and the Kingdom of Heaven, our church leaders
should do the same.
Paul always pointed to Christ Jesus. He didn't put the
spotlight on himself (well, not often and usually just
to make the point again that he was powerless to effect
the change that only God can bring about). He also didn't
worry too much about what others thought of him.
Good guides. Not security guards. Pray that the Lord will
inspire more of these leaders to come forward and guide
those of us who get off track.
Peace and joy,
Tom Gilbert
