Opening Thoughts:
Greetings to you all and the peace of
Christ be with you. This is a lovely and powerful greeting
when you stop to consider it. The peace of the Lord, the
peace that Christ gives, is unlike what the world can offer.
It is real, true and everlasting peace.
I recently finished reading a fine book, one that had been on my bookshelf for
a while. You know how that is, a book you plan to get to but for some reason
it has to wait for the right time. I truly believe it was the Holy Spirit that
finally prompted me to pick it up.
The book is The Way of the Dreamcatcher: Spirit Lessons with Robert Lax:
Poet,
Peacemaker, Sage (Novalis Press). It was written by Steve T. Georgiou,
a teacher and writer from San Francisco who traveled to Greece seeking spiritual
renewal.
He had no idea who Robert Lax was or that he had been living on the Greek isle
of Patmos (where the disciple John wrote the New Testament's Book of Revelation).
He
was steered
to this poet and sage by residents of the island.
Robert Lax was a close friend of Thomas Merton. They went to school together
in Columbia and were both converts to Catholicism, although Lax came from Judaism.
Lax had a profound effect on Merton and many years later on the author of this
book. I found the conversations Georgiou shared with Lax to be enlightening,
humorous, and profound. Robert Lax was clearly a holy man who lived simply and
was full of love for all of life. Steve Georgiou has done us a favor in writing
this book and I encourage you to read it. You can even purchase it online at
our Living the Solution store. Order it here
Peace and joy,

We
Need More Mystics
Article by Tom

"As
I looked, thrones were set in place, and
the Ancient of Days took his seat. His
clothing was as white as snow; the hair
of his head was white like wool. His throne
was flaming with fire, and its wheels were
all ablaze. A river of fire was flowing,
coming out from before him. Thousands upon
thousands attended him; ten thousand times
ten thousand stood before him. The court
was seated, and the books were opened.” (Daniel
7:9-10, NIV)
The incredible visions reported in the Bible by Ezekiel, Daniel, and the apostle
John sound more like something from a science fiction or fantasy story than real
life. I believe God mostly communicates in the still small voice inside us, but
sometimes his appearance is more dramatic. His heavenly messengers have been
awesome and frightening.
In today’s all-too pragmatic world many of us don’t want to believe
in mystical revelation. It’s too fantastic.
In the two thousand years of Christianity there have been many mystics. Their
revelations have often not been incredible visions. Instead they’ve spoken
and written about a deep, mysterious oneness with the divine consciousness of
God.
What is the mystery of the mystics? Can we, as simply “workers among workers”,
even begin to grasp the depth of their revelations? Is there anything in them
we should know?

DAILY THOUGHTS & REFLECTIONS |
|
Building Ourselves Up
But you, dear friends, carefully build yourselves
up in this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit, staying right
at the center of God's love, keeping your arms open and outstretched,
ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ. This is the unending
life, the real life! (Jude 1:20-21 — The Message)
This is the real life; we immerse ourselves
in God, allowing Him to come in and live through us in
such a way that it is hard to tell where we end and He
begins. He is to be our life, not Him being just a part
of our life. This is real life; this is Jesus living through
us. This is how we build ourselves up and stay strong,
by connecting our hearts with His daily, praying, reading
His love letters to us, and most of all listening to what
He says to us. All of that is real life.
Live the real life daily. Get and stay connected daily with His heart.
Live intentionally, purposely, free and with passion,
